Logging On to the Portal

Users and passwords are defined in the directory server. To enable those users and passwords for portal logon, you must define a security configuration, using the portal tools. However, in order to do so, you need to log on to the portal. The first time you log on to the portal, you log on as a default, predefined user, called admin, using the default password, admin. After you have defined a security configuration, you may continue to log on as user admin, or you may log on with the user information defined in the directory server.

The admin/admin logon provides you with access to the portal as a fully qualified super-administrator.

Note that administrator access is enabled via Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers only. There is no administrator access via Netscape browsers.

Initial Logon

To log on to the portal for the first time:

...

       1.      Open your Microsoft Internet Explorer browser.

       2.      Type the following address in the Internet browser URL field, and press Enter:

http:// fully qualified Portal server and domain name:IIS port /sapportal/

For example, if the Web server is located on port 1000 of a computer that is identified as flamingo on the network, type the following address:

http://flamingo.usersdomain.com:1000/sapportal/

If you are working with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), the portal URL begins with https instead of http, and the port value must indicate the IIS secured port as follows:

https:// fully qualified Portal server and domain name:IIS port /sapportal/

       3.      In the Enter Network Password dialog box, enter the following:

¡        User Name: admin

¡        Password: admin

Note: If the Unification Server is already installed on your machine, then the admin/admin entry may have been replaced. Consult the Unification Server administrator for appropriate credentials.

       4.      Click OK, and wait for the portal to load.

       5.      In the portal top-level navigation bar, click System Configuration > User Management Configuration.

       6.      Create a configuration using the instructions in the section Configuration of User Management and Security.

Important: As the user admin was not designed to be used beyond the initial configuration stages, and does not fully support working with multiple languages, it is recommended to work as a portal administrator using your own name and password.

To do so, make sure that you are registered in the directory server to which your security configuration points and that you are associated with the portal_admin role. Then logon to the portal with your own name and password.

Tip: In the User Management Configuration tool, it is recommended that you change the admin/admin user ID and/or password.

       7.      In the configuration that you create, you can change the admin password and/or the user name.

Regular Logon

After the user management and security configuration is implemented, end users can log on to the portal, from any client machine, using their own user name and password, as they are defined in the corporate directory server.

To log on to the portal:

...

       1.      Open your Web browser.

If you are working with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), the portal URL begins with https instead of http, and indicates the IIS secured port as follows:

https:// fully qualified Portal server and domain name:IIS secured port /sapportal/

       3.      In the Enter Network Password dialog box, enter the following:

¡        User Name: Enter your user name in the format: domain\user name.

¡        Password: Enter your password.

When the Enterprise Portal opens, users see the portal configured according to the content assignments defined for the roles to which they belong.
