Portal Server 

Purpose

The Portal Server provides an environment for developing and administering portal content (roles and iViews) and for performing user administration. It also provides a set of services for running iViews and assembling them on portal pages which are rendered in the Enterprise Portal in a Web browser. The services include:

The Portal Server accesses persistent data, that is, data that should still be available after any internal memory mechanism is cleared. How this data is stored is described in more detail in the section on the Persistence Layer.
