Customizing the Name in the Welcome Message in the Portal

Use

When a user logs on to the Enterprise Portal, his or her 'friendly name' is displayed in the welcome message in the portal header. This friendly name, for example, John Parker is constructed from the user's first and last name in the corporate LDAP directory. If you wish, you can change which attribute from the corporate LDAP directory is used for the welcome message.

Procedure

  1. Find out the name of the configuration currently in use by choosing System Configuration ® User Management Config. in the portal and noting the entries for Current Host and Current Config. in the General Settings tab.
  2. Open the registry on the host defined in Current Host in the above step.
  3. Go to the user management configuration file at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SAPPortals\User Management\Configurations\<PortalConfigName> where PortalConfigName is the name of the configuration currently in use.
  4. Add a new string value called Friendly Name Attribute and assign to it the name of the attribute in the corporate LDAP directory that you wish to be displayed in the welcome message.

Result

When a user logs on to the portal, the name in the welcome message will be drawn from the attribute in the corporate LDAP directory that you specified.
