Users in distributed environments typically work with several authentication mechanisms. Instead of introducing new logon procedures, existing mechanisms should be reused whenever possible. To this end, the Enterprise Portal supports delegating the authentication of a user accessing the portal to external authentication services. Some external authentication services such as Windows authentication are already seamlessly integrated into the product, whereas any other mechanisms can be integrated through a provided interface.
