Single Sign-On to Unifier Projects

If you have installed the Unification Server, any unifier projects that you have defined as data sources will be integrated in the portal as an iPanel. Users with the appropriate permissions will be able to access data from a unifier project through the iPanel.

If you are using a version 5.0 unifier, Single Sign-On to a unifier project is assured by means of SAP logon tickets, in other words, when a user opens an iPanel, he or she is not prompted to enter a user ID and password. By default, the Unification Server is set up to accept tickets. In addition, the authentication method for the data source must be set to Anonymous/SSO. A filter in the Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) of the unifier project verifies the logon ticket, extracts the user data from it and logs on to the Unification Server with that user.

If you are using a version 4.5 unifier, Single Sign-On with logon tickets is not supported. You have to use user mapping.

To access the underlying data of a unifier project, for example if the user sends a query to a database, the user must be mapped to a valid user ID and password for the database, if the database does not use the same user data as the portal (the corporate LDAP directory). How to map users is described in the section on User Mapping.

The Single Sign-On mechanisms used to access unifier projects and their underlying data is illustrated in the following diagram.
