Knowledge Management
The Knowledge Management platform (KM) provides functions that support the management of information in the form of unstructured data and partly structured data in SAP Enterprise Portal.
The KM platform consists of three elements that have different tasks.

The elements consist of several function blocks:
· Repository framework:
Responsible for storing documents together with their content and properties. Obtains documents from various sources, and provides basic document services, such as structuring, navigation, version management, access control, and so on.
· Taxonomies and classification:
Manages global hierarchies, adds documents to hierarchies with the help of automatic classification (depending on the content), defines a publication workflow for hierarchies based on the document status.
· Subscriptions and notifications:
Manages subscriptions for any event (for example, content changes) that affects a document, a folder, or similar object, and sends automatic notifications, for example, to alert users to changes.
· Indexing and searching:
Creates indexes of repositories and answers full-text requests, property requests, and taxonomy requests, calling the requested documents irrespective of their physical location.
· Communication and collaboration:
Enables the sending and receipt of documents, the answering of polls, and cooperation on documents with other users by means of sending feedback and using the features for rating a document, adding notes to a document, or starting a discussion about a document.
