Object documentationBank and Tax Data

Information required for correct processing of business transactions, such as bank account details, payment cards, taxation group, and identification numbers.

Bank Account Details

You can enter comprehensive data about the bank accounts belonging to a business partner, as follows:

  • The bank and the account can be clearly identified by the country key of the bank, the bank key, and the bank account number.

  • The bank data provides additional information about the bank, such as name and address.

  • You can specify an international bank account number (IBAN), and other bank account details can be automatically derived from this.

If you want to allow business users to enter an IBAN only without a bank account number, do the following:

    • Activate the function IBANONLY in Customizing for Cross-Application Components, under Start of the navigation path SAP Business Partner Next navigation step Activation Switch for Functions End of the navigation path.

    • Display the checkbox Account Number Unknown in your UI as described in SAP Note 1539788Information published on SAP site.

Users must select the checkbox if they do not want to enter a bank account number.

  • You can enter SEPA mandates (see SEPA Mandates).

Bank account details are time-dependent and can be changed as of the current date or a future date. The system automatically restricts the validity of the bank account details to one day before the new details become valid. When a process accesses the old details, the system determines the new bank account details based on the bank details number of the old bank account details.

You can use read programs to import bank master data from an external data medium to your database. You do this in Customizing for Cross-Application Components, under Start of the navigation path Bank Directory Next navigation step Bank Directory Data Transfer End of the navigation path.

You can make settings for bank data checks in Customizing for SAP NetWeaver, under Start of the navigation path General Settings Next navigation step Set Countries Next navigation step Set Country-Specific Checks End of the navigation path.

Payment Cards

You can enter any number of payment cards for a business partner and identify the payment card that a business partner uses most frequently as the standard payment card. A payment card can be locked for a specified period of time, such as in the case of loss or theft.

A payment card can be assigned to one or more business partners.

You define payment cards in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management, under Start of the navigation path Basic Functions Next navigation step Payment Cards End of the navigation path.

Tax Classification

The data required to determine how a business partner is to be taxed. The tax classification corresponds to the ERP tax classification used in customer master records.

  • Country

Specifies in which country a business partner does business. A tax group (and thus also a tax rate) is assigned to this country.

  • Region

If necessary, you must state a region (such as a federal state) in addition to the country.

  • Tax type

The tax type specifies which tax is used as the basis of the country-specific tax determination.

You can define several tax types per country. The system uses the tax type according to the following criteria during order processing:

    • Geographical business location of the supplying plant and the customer (ship-to party)

    • Tax classification for business partner and product

  • Tax group

With the country, the region (if applicable), and the tax type, the tax group serves to determine the tax rate for sales and distribution, such as full rate, half rate, or none.

You define tax types and groups in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management, by choosing Start of the navigation path Basic Functions Next navigation step Taxes Next navigation step Basic Settings Next navigation step Tax Types and Tax Groups End of the navigation path.

In cases where the tax classification is derived from the ERP tax classification used in customer master records, define the necessary mapping in the Customizing activity Assign Tax Groups to SAP ECC Tax Classifications (Business Partner).

Tax Numbers

An identification number issued by the tax authorities to taxpayers.

You may need to quote your business partners’ tax numbers in business correspondence with them (such as in invoices), or when you file reports with the tax authorities. The exact requirements vary from country to country.

You define the different types (categories) of tax numbers you require in Customizing for Cross-Application Components, under Start of the navigation path SAP Business Partner Next navigation step Business Partner Next navigation step Basic Settings Next navigation step Tax Numbers Next navigation step Maintain Tax Number Categories End of the navigation path.

Identification Numbers

An alphanumeric key provided by external sources that can be used as an alternative to the business partner number to identify a business partner.

To distinguish the business partner as clearly as possible, you can create as many identification numbers as you require.

You define identification types and categories in Customizing for Cross-Application Components, under Start of the navigation path SAP Business Partner Next navigation step Business Partner Next navigation step Basic Settings Next navigation step Identification Numbers Next navigation step Define Identification Categories End of the navigation path/Define Identification Types. For more information, see the Customizing documentation Identification Number Concept.

You also have the option of using data cleansing services provided by a business information provider (BIP) that assigns BIP identification numbers in the context of data comparison. For more information, see the documentation of the reports BUPA_BIP_FILE_EXPORT and BUPA_BIP_FILE_IMPORT.
