Function documentationTerritory Based Employee, Account, and Product Determination

This function helps you align the ownership of accounts or contacts, products, sales areas, and business transactions with territory ownership.

For example, a sales representative working with sales orders creates a business transaction and has territory data; the territory management capability automatically determines the following in the business transactions, on the basis of the territory:

  • Employee responsible

  • Account or contact

  • Product

Prerequisites

  • You have defined or made settings for the following as part of configuration for the Territory Processing business process in the SAP Solution Manager:

    • Transaction types, item categories, and partner determination procedures with which you want the system to carry out territory-based checks

    • Whether the user should have the scope ‘My’ or ‘My Team’ or ‘All’ with respect to territory checks.

    • Territory-based search fields in the search view and the result view of the account and product applications.

  • For employee determination, you have defined the access sequence in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management, by choosing Start of the navigation path Basic Functions Next navigation step Partner Processing Next navigation step Define Access Sequences End of the navigation path use access sequence 0030 (Start of the navigation path Preceding Document Next navigation step Territory Management Next navigation step User) End of the navigation path based on the source, partner determination origin CRM_PARTNER_M, Business Partner from Territory Management.

Activities

Employee Determination
  • Based on the attributes of the partner function source (in access sequence 0030, this is the sold-to party), the system determines the territory. The system then takes the employee responsible assigned to the territory.

  • If the system finds more than one territory or employee responsible, you have the option of selecting the relevant one. If the employee you have selected has multiple territories, then a second dialog box appears where you select the relevant territory. If the business partner is directly assigned to a territory, this territory is marked as a default.

  • The territory is located in the business transaction, as part of business partner details, which you can overwrite. The order of priority is as follows:

  1. Main position responsible.

  2. Territory, to which the business partner is directly assigned. The system sets the corresponding employees as default in the dialog box.

Account, Contact, and Product Determination
  • Based on the territory ID entered in the business transaction while searching, the system determines the accounts, contacts, or products that can be used.

  • You can specify whether a sales representative can search for own accounts, contacts, and products, the accounts, contacts, and products of the team, or all accounts, contacts, and products.

  • You can configure the authorization check in the system to ensure that only accounts, contacts, and products that belong to a territory that is being associated with that business transaction can be used. So for example, if a product is assigned to territory T1 you can use only that product in sales orders you create with T1.
