Creating Target Groups

You create target groups to group business partners, marketing prospects or contacts in lists for a marketing activity, such as a marketing campaign (for more information, see Target Groups). SAP CRM allows you to create target groups in several different ways.

Prerequisites

To create target groups during segmentation, you must make the necessary settings in Customizing.
For more information, see Customizing for Customer Relationship Management under Marketing Segmentation .
To create target groups from external lists, you must make settings for external list management.
For more information, see Customizing for Customer Relationship Management under Marketing External List Management .
To create target groups from the extended account or contact partner search, you must create and assign the required parameters and parameter profiles.

To create target groups in SAP NetWeaver BW, your SAP CRM System must be registered for the scenario TGSELECT.

By modeling a segmentation model using selection criteria

By selecting the corporate account, individual account, or contact persons from the extended search results list.
By selecting target groups in SAP NetWeaver BW and then creating them directly in SAP CRM

Activities

You can use one of the following options to create target groups in SAP CRM:

To create a target group during segmentation, model a segmentation model using selection criteria for business partners, marketing prospects or contacts on the Segmentation Model page.
SAP CRM creates the new target group as part of the segmentation model on the basis of your selection criteria.
To create a target group on the basis of an external list, upload the external list to the External List page and use the process step Maintain Target Group.

To create a target group on the basis of specific corporate or individual accounts, perform a search on the page Search: Accounts and use the Create Target Group button.

SAP CRM creates the new target group as part of the segmentation model specified or as part of a new segmentation model according to your selection.
To create a target group on the basis of specific contact persons, perform a search on the page Search: Contacts and use the Create Target Group button.
SAP CRM creates the new target group as part of the segmentation model specified or as part of a new segmentation model according to your selection.
To create a target group from the selection you made in SAP NetWeaver BW, use transaction RSTG_BUPA and create the target group in SAP CRM.

You can also create target groups on the basis of the extended account or contact partner search during the guided activity Campaign Assistant.

To use this function, you must activate the business function Campaign Wizard (CRM_MKT_CPG_WIZARD).

Note Note

If you assign a target group to a segmentation model, you can also select a profile group without an ID (this is a segmentation element that was created prior to SAP enhancement package 1 for SAP CRM 7.0). In this case, the system generates an ID for the profile group automatically.

You can generate new target groups periodically by selecting the Execute Job Periodically indicator when you schedule target group generation.
