You can use this function to search for Intellectual Properties (IPs) and analyze their availability. This allows you to check whether the IP is available for a rights sale or transfer. It can also be important to check the availability of the IP internally, for example if broadcasters want to check availability to air a program. The search can be performed using selection criteria defined by SAP. Two central scenarios are available here:
General request (GREQ). This scenario focuses on performing a detailed availability analysis of which IPs are available for a specific use and the reasons for an IP not being available
License to third party (LTHP). This scenario focuses on identifying what rights are available to be sold (licensing out).
The rights availability analysis connects the rights inventory for your media company and the existing license acquisition and license sales contracts. This function gives you a complete overview of all Intellectual Property rights and the associated contract, release, and rights availability information.
The rights availability analysis results are the basis for follow-up activities and business decisions. Therefore, the different output like IP lists, the analysis results overview, and the analysis results detail view provide functions to interact with the Intellectual Property Management (IPM) functions listed below:
Display and creation of license acquisition contracts
Display and creation of license sales contracts
Display product (Intellectual Property)
Display business partner
Copy rights template to a rights scope (to specify rights to be analyzed)
You have entered IPs and recorded licence acquisition and license sales contracts in the system.

You can use the rights availability analysis to see an overview of the IP rights available in your media company and search for IP rights that are still available for sale. You create a rights availability request for your analysis.
Each request is based on a rights availability scenario. This determines the setup for a specific use case for the rights availability reporting, such as the fields that display and the screen sequence. You can maintain the rights availability scenarios in Customizing for Customer
Relationship Management
under .
The system provides a guided activity in which you create a rights availability request and perform the rights availability analysis. The system calculates the available rights by subtracting the rights out from the rights in, which are defined as follows:
Rights In |
Rights released to be sold. The system considers the rights owned, release dates, and release restrictions to determine the rights status in the rights inventory. |
Rights Out |
Sold rights, or rights maintained in sales contracts. |
After you perform the analysis, you can create a license sales contract directly from the guided activity.
You can define the system status of the contract items that the rights availability analysis includes in the availability calculation. The system automatically sets this status based on the actions performed in the contract; for example, if you release a contract, the system sets the status
to Released
.
You can specify whether the system includes or excludes a specific status. To do so, make the settings in Customizing for Customer Relationship Management
under .
Example
You make the settings in Customizing so that the system only includes contracts with the system status Released
in the rights availability calculation. In your rights availability request, the system finds IPs in two license sales contracts based on the availability
criteria you specified in the guided activity. You select both IPs to include in the rights availability calculation. The system status of License Contract A is Open
, and the status of License Contract B is Released
. When you perform the rights
availability analysis, the system only includes the IPs from License Contract B in the availability calculation.
You can use Business Add-In (BAdI) Calc. Flexibility in the Rights Availability Analysis
(CRM_IPM_RAA_INFL_CALC_BDEF
) to implement your own availability calculation logic for the rights availability analysis. For example, you can
change the logic to specify which rights or subordinate IPs are considered in the rights availability calculation.
