The product master is the central source for accessing product-specific data. This data is saved in individual product master records.
The product master manages all product data that is associated with the rights acquisition and rights sales processes.
Information on your Intellectual Property rights is represented as Intellectual Properties (IPs), These are product masters of an immaterial nature. Physical products, such as video cassettes, which are based on IP rights and are to be published or transferred to the licensee are managed using the material product type.
If you are using by title financial processing and reporting, you also use the IP product type to represent your title masters.
Note
Comprehensive information on the Customizing settings for the IP is available for the Intellectual Property Management business scenarios under SAP for Media
in the SAP Solution Manager
.
Attributes and Set Types
Attributes are used to describe products and are grouped together into set types. The use of set types make it possible to model a product in a detailed manner in your system. For more information, see Set Types and Attributes.
Categories and Hierarchies
Categories and hierarchies are used for structuring purposes, and allow you to group together products according to different criteria. Categories define which set types and relationship types are allowed for a product, thereby enabling you to structure the information you require on your products through the assignment of categories. For more information, see Product Hierarchies.
Alternative IDs
Alternative ID types can be defined in the product master and used in business processes instead of the product ID. Alternative IDs therefore allow you to use an identification in your business processes that conforms to industry standards, for example ISBN, serial number, vehicle identification number.
You define alternative IDs in Customizing for Cross-Application Components, by choosing
and create the necessary UI configuration on the SAP Easy Access screen under (see report documentation).Note
The template framework is not supported in SAP Intellectual Property Management (this is a technical environment where users create and maintain mini-templates for other product types of the master data object Product
)
