Function documentationKey Figure Planning in Marketing

In Marketing, you use key figure planning, for example, to set up the budget for your marketing plan, plan the costs of a campaign or the product quantities you want to sell as part of a campaign, and so on. After the marketing project is carried out, you can use SAP ERP to perform a detailed profitability analysis, or use SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence (SAP NetWeaver BI) to compare plan data and actual data.

Prerequisites

Customizing for Customer Relationship Management
  • You have made the settings under Start of the navigation path Marketing Next navigation step Marketing Planning and Campaign Management Next navigation step Key Figure Planning End of the navigation path.

The most important activity is Define Planning Profile Groups. You trigger and control key figure planning in Marketing by entering a planning profile group (see Planning Profile Group and Planning Profile). For campaigns, you enter the planning profile group in the Planning assignment block; whereas for trade promotions, you enter it in the General Data assignment block.

  • If you want to use the online update function to transfer your marketing project master data to SAP NetWeaver BI, you have made the settings under Start of the navigation path Marketing Next navigation step Marketing Planning and Campaign Management Next navigation step System Landscape Next navigation step Activate SAP NetWeaver BI Update End of the navigation path.

You can define that a different SAP NetWeaver BI hierarchy is created and updated for each marketing project top node. You can also define that only one SAP NetWeaver BI hierarchy is created and updated for all marketing projects, the name of that hierarchy being CRMMKTROOT. For more information, see the Customizing documentation.

  • You have set up the RFC connection to SAP NetWeaver BI under Start of the navigation path Marketing Next navigation step Marketing Planning and Campaign Management Next navigation step System Landscape Next navigation step Define RFC Connections End of the navigation path. You have made sure that the remote user assigned to the system is a dialog user and that this user has the required planning authorizations.

  • If you want to use version management, you have defined versions under Start of the navigation path Marketing Next navigation step Marketing Planning and Campaign Management Next navigation step Key Figure Planning Next navigation step Version Management End of the navigation path.

  • If you want to use traffic light alerts, you have made the settings under Start of the navigation path Marketing Next navigation step Marketing Planning and Campaign Management Next navigation step Key Figure Planning Next navigation step Define Planning Profile Groups Next navigation step Assignment of Traffic Lights End of the navigation path.

Marketing
  • You have created a marketing project in SAP Customer Relationship Management (SAP CRM). You have entered an ID, description, plan start and end date, and currency. Depending on the planning profiles included in the planning profile group that you have selected, you have entered products and target groups as well.

  • Your marketing project master data has been transferred to SAP NetWeaver BI.

You can use the online update function to do this automatically. An administrator can also trigger the transfer of a marketing project master data to SAP NetWeaver BI manually in the SAP Easy Access menu by choosing Start of the navigation path Marketing Next navigation step Transfer Marketing Projects to SAP BW End of the navigation path.

  • You have planning authorizations.

Features

  • Planning types

  • Traffic light status

You can show the status of a trade promotion or campaign as a red, green, or yellow light. The traffic lights are displayed in the Key Performance Indicator assignment block of the trade promotion or campaign. The traffic lights are refreshed when you save the trade promotion or campaign. For more information, see Trade Promotion Monitoring.

  • Version management

To keep track of your marketing activities, you may want to compare versions of your planning data. Versions can be dependent on the system status or the user status.
