Function documentation Locator Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

The locator is a tool used in product maintenance to search for and select different types of products according to a combination of selection criteria. Products you wish to work on frequently can be stored in a worklist.

Features

The locator appears either as a fullscreen, allowing you to switch between fullscreen versions of the locator and work area, or on the left-hand side of the product maintenance screen with the work area on the right. It consists of two tab pages:

If you wish, you can reduce or increase the width of the locator by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text(Narrower) or This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Wider). You can reduce the width of the locator directly to its minimum size by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Minimum) or increase the width of the locator directly to its maximum size by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Maximum). To increase your work area, you can hide the locator altogether by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Show/Hide Locator) or This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Close). To set your defaults for working with the locator, choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Settings).

The results of a search are shown in a hit list. If you wish, you can:

Multiple Selection

Multiple selection of products is possible on both the Search and Worklist tab pages in the locator:

On the Search tab page, you can select several products at once and assign them to your worklist. On the Worklist tab page, you can select several products at once and delete them in one go.

Assignment of Products to Other Products

Products can be assigned to other products in product maintenance using the relationships functionality. By making multiple selections from within the locator, on either the Worklist or Search tab page, you can assign several products at once to a product in the work area. To do this, select the relevant products within the hit list and choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Copy to Clipboard). Using the relationships functionality in the work area, you can then assign the selected products to the product you are working on by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Insert Products).

If you are using the SAP GUI for Windows, product relationships can also be created using Drag&Drop functionality available on both the Search and Worklist tab pages. Simply drag and drop one or more products onto another product to create a product relationship.

Activities

Using the Search Function in the Locator

  1. In the Find field, select a product type.
  2. If you wish, enter a product ID or description. If you do not know the exact ID or description, you can precede or follow your entry with an asterisk to search generically. If you do not know a certain character in the description, the underscore ‘_’ can be used as a replacement character. However, if you explicitly want to use the underscore in the search string, the escape character ‘#’ must be entered before the underscore. (For example, a product description begins with ‘CH_’. You therefore enter the search string ‘CH#_*’.)
  3. Select additional criteria in the By field to restrict your search.
  4. Choose either Start or Enter to search for products meeting the selection criteria you specified.
A hit list is displayed. From here, you can display the product or copy it to your worklist by choosing This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (Include in Worklist).
