Glossary: Overview of Decision Tree Terminology
Term |
Definition |
Comparison parameter |
The parameter compared to the test parameter in either a Parameter Comparison or Value Comparison Test. |
Context parameter |
Uniquely identifies the parameter in question, be it a Test, Comparison, or Result parameter.
The above context parameter is assigned to the parameter Country to uniquely identify it. The parameter country could have more than one value – for example, the country could refer to the country of the Ship-From partner, or the country of the Ship-To partner. By defining the context parameter, the parameter to be evaluated is uniquely identified. |
Decision Tree |
A set of logically connected test questions that lead to a required result, such as a tax event. |
Error condition |
When no tax event can be determined, the decision tree is concluded with an Error Condition, as opposed to a Result that represents a tax event. |
Parameter comparison test |
Parameter comparison tests are used to evaluate test questions when a dynamic test is required. In dynamic tests, two parameters, that is the test parameter and the comparison parameter, are compared to see if they have the same value |
Field catalog |
Contains all the possible fields and their field usages, that is Test or Context parameter, that can be used in a decision tree. A decision tree is derived from a field catalog. |
Field catalog variant |
Determines which fields are available for a decision tree and is defined from the corresponding field catalog. A decision tree must be assigned a field catalog variant, and this variant must contain all the fields needed to define the required tax event(s). |
Result condition |
In the decision tree for tax event determination, this represents the tax event. The result condition comprises Result Parameter Context and Result Parameters. |
Target parameters |
Result parameters that are declared when a tax event is determined. |
Test parameter |
The parameter that is being subjected to either the Value Comparison or Parameter Comparison Test. If the test parameter cannot be uniquely identified, a context parameter is assigned to it. |
Test Questions |
Statements that are evaluated using a Value Comparison or Parameter Comparison Test. |
Value comparison test |
Value comparison tests are used to evaluate test questions when a static test is required. In static tests, the test parameter is compared to one or more comparison values that are explicitly listed. |
