Creating a Customer-Specific User Interface for the SCE

Use

The SCE comes with its own standard interface, but the interface is independent of the configuration engine itself. This means that you can define a customer-specific user interface for the SCE, linking to locally stored graphics to reflect the customer's corporate image. This user interface is for the SCE only – it does not affect the user interface for Variant Configuration in the R/3 System.

If you want to customize the standard SCE interface, rather than create your own, see Properties Dialog.

Integration

The user interface you define is stored on your PC or laptop. To link your customer-specific user interface to the product model, enter its name in the knowledge-base object for the product, in the relevant knowledge-base profile, and write a program that reads this field. You can specify different interfaces for different environments.

A salesperson who uses the SCE on a laptop to configure products on-site with customers needs to use reporting functions. An internet customer only wants to see information on product options and prices.

You can define a user interface in JAVA or any language that is capable of communicating with JAVA programs.

Prerequisites

The workbench for creating a customer-specific user interface comprises SCE Beans and SCE APIs. You also need the following:

Features

As of R/3 Release 4.6C, a new feature is available for the SCE standalone and Mobile Sales, which lets you download document info records with the runtime version of a knowledge base. This means that you can use the document management system to link the graphics that you want to display in the SCE to characteristics and/or values in your knowledge base.
