The part of a knowledge-base object that specifies the OO class (configurable material or class of configurable materials) with which you want to start configuration and defines the user interface for configuration in the SCE.

The knowledge-base profile defines how the product in the knowledge-base object is configured in the SCE.

The knowledge-base profile contains a link to an OO class, and can also contain a link to a user-specific user interface that is stored on the PC or laptop where the SCE is used.

If no user interface is specified in the knowledge-base profile, the SCE's standard interface is used, with any characteristic groupings defined as part of the interface design in R/3 Variant Configuration.
