Creating a Profile

Use

A marketing profile is a finite list of attributes and the corresponding attribute values which together "profile" (describe) a business partner or product. These attributes are stored in a profile template.

Those business partners sharing similar attributes are assigned to the same marketing profile. By combining profiles to create target groups, more selective and more personalized marketing activities are possible.

You may wish to create some typical profiles (for example "Married with children", "Retired", "Over 30s") in advance, to which you can then assign business partners and which are to be a focus for further marketing activities.

Note that a business partner may be assigned to no more than one profile at any one time.

Example

The following graphic demonstrates the relationship between profile templates, profiles and individual business partners:

The business partner highlighted in red is one of three others assigned to profile A.

Prerequisites

Procedure

  1. Choose Customer Relationship Management ® Marketing ® Market Segmentation ® Profiles ® Maintain Profiles.
  2. Enter the name of the profile template.
  3. This template determines the selection criteria (attributes) that the business partner specifies when they create their profile.

  4. Enter a name for the profile and a description.
  5. If you make no entry in the Name field, the system will assign a name to the profile automatically. When you choose Create the system displays a message informing you that the profile name will be determined internally.

  6. Choose Create.
  7. Enter a description for the profile.
  8. Enter the appropriate values for the attributes displayed.
  9. To view further information on an attribute, place your cursor on the attribute in question and choose Display attribute.

If you choose Technical names the system also displays the name of the attribute and, where appropriate, the description of the attribute value.

To enter multiple values for a given attribute, select the attribute in the list and choose Copy. You can then enter further values for the attribute.

  10. Save your data.

If the values entered for this profile are identical to those for an existing profile, the system displays a message telling you the profile cannot be created. To create the profile, change one or more of the values entered for the attributes.

Result

The profiles you create can be used as one of the selection criteria by which target groups can be created. For more information, see Creating a Target Group
