Set Type: Partner Function

Definition

The set type Partner function lets you assign business partners to each other for partner functions that define the rights and responsibilities of each business partner in business transactions.

Use

Use set type Partner function to:

Assign business partners to the business partner you are maintaining for individual partner functions in individual sales areas.

The system adds a relationship of the appropriate relationship category. Choose Relationships to see the new relationship.

Set the indicator Standard to indicate that a business partner is the default standard partner for a particular partner function for the business partner you are maintaining.

You are maintaining Smith Ltd. who has the BP role Sold-to party. You assign Miller Ltd. and Baker Ltd. to Smith Ltd. for the partner function Ship-to party. You set the indicator Standard so that Miller Ltd. is the standard partner for Smith Ltd. for the partner function Ship-to party.

Smith Ltd. is the Sold-to party in a sales order and a business partner with the partner function Ship-to party is required as goods recipient. Miller Ltd., and not Baker Ltd., is the default Ship-to party for this order.

If you do not set the indicator Standard, the business partner you are maintaining takes on all partner functions. In this case, the business partner Smith Ltd. is automatically both Sold-to party and Ship-to party in the sales order in the above example.

You do not need to maintain this in set type Partner Function, that is, you do not need to assign a business partner to itself for partner functions.

In the set type Partner function, you can choose from the following standard partner functions for assignment to business partners:

You can create and maintain sets for the set type Partner function in different sales areas.

Integration

The business partner function default procedure defines which partner functions are suggested as defaults when you maintain BP Roles. You define your procedures in Customizing for Business Partners in the activity Business Partner Function Default Procedure.

You can rename partner functions to suit your company's terminology. For example, in the real estate business, you might rename the sold-to party the tenant.
