Function documentation Hierarchy Intervals Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You have the option of hanging characteristics in the form of intervals under a hierarchy node. Instead of hanging the cost types for Material Costs individually under the node Material Costs in a cost type hierarchy, you can specify the cost types in the form Cost Type 100 to 1000.

You can create intervals for characteristic values, for which no master data yet exists, and save having to expand the hierarchy every time new master data is added. New characteristic values are inserted automatically.

InfoObject 0HIER_NODE or the basic characteristic of the hierarchy must therefore be specified for a node of type Interval. This node represents the interval. The entries for the interval are nodes that can be updated and are entered in fields LEAFFROM and LEAFTO. The description of the interval is comprised of your specifications for these fields.

The interval is triggered in the query. That means that all the nodes lying in the interval that have data in the fact table are displayed as leaves.

Example

You create interval Cost Type 100 to 1000 under node Material Costs for characteristic Cost Type. Master data for this characteristic is available in BW, but only for the values 100-500.

In the query only values 100 - 500 for which there is transaction data are displayed under node Material Costs in the cost type hierarchy.

In the course of time some cost types will be added to the material costs and you create master data for the values 501 - 600. As soon as transaction data has been loaded, the new cost types can be displayed automatically in the query, without you having to expand the hierarchy manually.
