Procedure documentation Creating ODS Objects Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Prerequisites

Make sure that all the InfoObjects that you want to transfer into the ODS object are active. Create any required InfoObjects that do not exist already and activate them.

As an alternative to creating a new ODS object, it is also possible to transfer an ODS object from SAP delivered Business Content.

Procedure

  1. Select the InfoArea that you want to assign the ODS object to, or create a new InfoArea. Choose Modeling ® Info Provider ® Create InfoArea.
  2. From the context menu for the InfoArea, choose Create ODS Object.
  3. Give a name and a description for the ODS object, and choose Create.

If you want to create a copy of an existing ODS object, specify the ODS object that you want to use as a template.

You get to the ODS object maintenance screen.

  1. Transferring InfoObjects:

On the left side of the screen, there are various templates to choose from, which allow you to get a better overview in relation to a particular task. For performance reasons, the default setting here is an empty template. Using the pushbuttons, select an InfoSource (only the InfoObjects for the communication structure of the InfoSource are displayed), an InfoCube, an ODS object, or an InfoObject catalog.

Define the ODS object in the right half of the screen. Using the drag and drop function, assign the InfoObjects in the key fields and in the data fields. It is possible to select several InfoObjects at once. The system assigns navigation attributes automatically. These navigation attributes can be switched on for reporting in BEx.

Or:

You can also insert InfoObjects without selecting a template in the left half of the screen. This enables you to know exactly which InfoObjects you want to include in the ODS object. For this you simply choose the nodes for key fields or data fields Add InfoObjects by using the context menu. In the dialog box that subsequently appears, you can directly enter the InfoObjects (up to ten) and transfer, or select by using input help. You can still reassign these by using Drag&Drop.

Note

There has to be at least one key field and one data field. Additional restrictions:

  1. Under Settings, you can:

Note

You can also deselect this indicator again (even if data has already been loaded into the ODS object). This can be necessary if you want to re-post deleted data records using a repair request (see: Tab Page: Update). In this case, you need to deselect the Unique Data Records indicator before posting the repair request, following which you can then reset the Unique Data Records indicator once more. The regeneration of metadata of the Export DataSource, which takes place when the ODS object is reactivated, has no effect on the existing data mart delta method.

Note

Only activate automatic activation and updating if you can ensure that these processes do not overlap. Here, we recommend using process chains.

  1. You can create secondary indexes by using the context menu under Indexes in order to improve the loading and query performance of the ODS object. Primary indexes are created automatically by the system.

If the values in the index uniquely identify each record in the table, select Unique Index from the dialog box. The description of the indexes is specified by the system. To create a folder for the indexes, choose Continue from the dialog box. Now you can transfer the key fields that you want into the index folder by using Drag & Drop.

You can create a maximum of 16 secondary indexes. These are also automatically transported.

  1. Additional functions:
  1. Save the ODS object, and activate it. Upon activation, an export InfoSource is also created, which can be used to further update the ODS object data.
