Business Information Warehouse: Overview

Purpose

The SAP Business Information Warehouse allows you to analyze data from operative SAP applications as well as all other business applications and external data sources such as databases, online services and the Internet. The Administrator Workbench functions are designed for controlling, monitoring and maintaining all data retrieval processes.

The SAP Business Information Warehouse enables Online Analytical Processing (OLAP), which processes information from large amounts of operative and historical data. OLAP technology enables multi-dimensional analyses from various business perspectives. The Business Information Warehouse Server for core areas and processes, pre-configured with Business Content, ensures you can look at information within the entire enterprise. In selected roles in a company, Business Content offers the information that employees need to carry out their tasks. As well as roles, Business Content contains other pre-configured objects such as InfoCubes, queries, key figures, characteristics, that make BW implementation easier.

With the Business Explorer, the SAP Business Information Warehouse provides flexible reporting and analysis tools for analyses and decision-making support in your enterprise. These tools include query, reporting and OLAP functions. As an employee with access authorization, you can evaluate past or current data on various levels of detail and from different perspectives not only on the Web but also in MS Excel.

The Business Explorer gives a broad range of users access to information in the SAP BW: Via the Enterprise Portal, using an iView, for example, that you can call up along side applications for data extraction. Over the intranet (Web Application Design); or via mobile devices (WAP-enabled mobile telephones, Personal Digital Assistants).

The Web Application Design enables you to use generic OLAP navigation in Web applications and Business Intelligence Cockpits in simple up to highly individual scenarios. You can use standard markup languages to create highly individual scenarios with user-defined interface elements. The Web Application Design includes a broad spectrum of interactive Web-based business intelligence scenarios that you can adjust using standard Web technologies to meet your requirements.
