All iViews are assigned to channels. iViews may also be associated with pages. Both channels and pages are assigned to roles. Users have access to all of the iViews associated with the pages assigned to their roles. Additionally, when personalizing Portal pages, users have access to all of the iViews in the channels assigned to their roles.
You use the channel to role assignments to determine which iViews a user has access to when personalizing a portal page. In the Channel Assignments dialog box, you can work in any of two directions:
- Choose a role and assign to it the permitted channel(s).
- Choose a channel and select the role(s) that have access to it.
To assign channel permissions, in the Roles to Channel mode:
- From the Enterprise Portal top level navigation bar, choose Portal Admin > Channel Assignment. The Channel Assignment dialog box is displayed.

- From the Set permissions to channel menu, choose a channel.
- In the Choose roles for selected channel list, choose the roles to which you want to assign the selected channel.
- Choose Select All to select all the roles available in the role list.
- Choose Deselect All to clear all the roles selected in the role list.
- Click Save.
- Repeat as necessary, to assign roles to additional channels.
To assign channel permissions, in the Channels to Role mode:
- From the Enterprise Portal top level navigation bar, choose Portal Admin > Channel Assignment. The Channel Assignment dialog box is displayed.
- Select the Channels to Role option.

- From the Select permissions for role menu, choose a role.
- In the Choose channels for selected role list, choose the channels you want to assign to the selected role.
- Choose Select All to select all the channels available in the channel list.
- Choose Deselect All to clear all the channels selected in the channel list.
- Click Save.
- Repeat as necessary, to define channel assignments for additional roles.
