Activating Data in the ODS Object
Use
Before you can use an ODS object as a data source for another ODS object or InfoCube, you have to make sure that the data is of good quality, and that it is active in the system. You can only activate the data if you have not switched on the option for the automatic processing of the request in the
ODS Object Maintenance or Administration However, we recommend using this automatic postprocessing restrictively. To simplify the process, we further recommend using
process chains. By using process chains, you also ensure that a process ends before the ones that follow are initiated. If you do not want to use process chains, proceed as described below.Functions
The data is written when activating the active data in the table, which is where the data is then available for reporting. During activation, the requests are sorted according to their logical keys. This ensures that the data is updated in the active data table in the correct request sequence. With an activation session, packages (from several PSA requests) are created that can be activated in parallel. However, several activation runs cannot run in parallel. Instead, they have to be triggered in sequence. However, this is only relevant for automatic activation. With manual activation, the pushbutton for activation is available again only if the previous activation run is completed.
Manual Activation:
Either choose using the context menu on the ODS Object
® Activate ODS Object, or choose
Activate ODS Data on the Requests tab in the administration. The inactive requests are displayed, enabling you to activate them. Only activated requests are updated in other data targets.
Here you have the following options:
If you set this indicator, a request in the change log appears from each loaded request after being activated. These are then updated individually to additional data targets. Otherwise, all requests activated in this process are compressed into a change log request. Only this request can be completely rolled back from the ODS object. This has been possible since release BW 2.0B.
When this indicator is set, the data is activated in an extracted background process in a series. Otherwise, data is activated in the separated dialog processes in parallel.

If an activation process is canceled, you are also unable to activate the following requests. Most importantly, you have to repeat the canceled activation until it is successful.
