What should you look out for during role maintenance?

When you work with the Role Editor, note the following:

You normally work from left to right, that is you select the objects you want to edit in the view area and move them to the edit area with the Edit, Create Copy, and Add functions. Exception: If you are creating new objects. In this case you start work in the edit area.
You can only have one object at a time in the edit area. For example, if you edit a role and then want to edit a workset:

Save the role you have been editing.
Find the relevant workset in the workset catalog in the view area and move it to the edit area.

Your role disappears from the edit area and the selected workset appears instead. You can now edit it.

When you want to return to your role, you have to look in the view area in the role catalog and go back to the edit area.

Note the following when setting up the role:

You create roles by creating folders and adding the content objects to these folders.

You should not nest the role hierarchy too deep.

When you set up detailed navigation, you can choose one of a number of variants. Read also Definition of Detailed Navigation.

If your users are working with Netscape, note that content added to a role does not automatically run in the Portal. You need to make certain modifications such as the scripting of iViews.

Remember that objects that are being edited in the Role Editor are not locked for editing by others. The same object might therefore be edited by more than one person at a given time. For more information read Note 448804.
