Roles in the SAP System
Definition
Roles in the SAP system are a collection of tasks, services and information available to a group of users. The role defines the transactions a user assigned to this role may execute.
Structure
In the SAP system, multiple single roles are combined into a composite role. One or more R/3 transactions, MiniApps, IACs, BEx Web Applications or URLs that all access the same system are assigned to a single role.
In contrast to the role definition in the Enterprise Portal, each single role in the SAP system is directly linked to a certain system. Users therefore can only use functions in different systems if they are assigned to multiple single roles (for example with a composite role).
The Enterprise Portal does not distinguish between single roles and composite roles. Each portal role can contain entries that access different R/3 systems.
