Maintaining Master iView and External Service Properties

Use

The following information is important for maintaining properties of master iViews and External Services:

Every master iView can be configured, that is you define which values it should pass to objects that were created based on the master iView.

Each External Service is created based on a master iView. The External Service takes on the properties of the master iView.

Some properties of the master iView can be overwritten in the External Service and others cannot.

You can add an External Service to a role and then change it in the role, i.e. overwrite its properties.
A new object is created when you add an External Service to a role. In this case you should change the properties of the External Service (of the new object) and not those of the original External Service.

The following graphic shows the above principle about inheriting properties.

External Service S1 is based on master iView M1 and has all its properties. Two values of these properties are overwritten in S1. External Service S1 is added to two roles R1 and R2. Two new objects, S11 and S12, are created.

All the properties of S1 are copied to role R1 in S11 and the value of a property is overwritten. All the properties of S1 are copied to role R2 in S12, the value of one property is also overwritten, but it is a different one than in role R1.

General Information about Maintaining Properties

Each master iView and each External Service has a property list. The properties are sorted in alphabetical order.

You can maintain the following attributes for each property:

Personalization enabled: With this attribute you can define whether or not the External Service should be personalized by the portal user.

shown in generic dialog: With this attribute you can define whether or not the personalization for the user should appear in a generic dialog. If you do not mark the attribute, the system will use a self-programmed personalization for the user dialog.

is final: With this attribute you can specify whether or not the value of the property may be overwritten. If is final is marked, you cannot change the value. If an External Service is added to a role, the properties that you marked with is final cannot be changed.

use default (only valid for master iViews): Also read Configuring Master iViews.

use master (only valid for External Services): With this attribute you can define that the value of the property should be reset to the value of the master iView. For example, if you overwrite a value of the master iView in the External Service and later want to return to the old value, you should select use master in the service.
