Configuring Master iViews

Use

Each master iView has a list of properties and values. You can either copy or change the values.

You can enter your own values for certain properties of a master iView. In this way you can configure a master iView before creating an External Service or Java iView from it.

If you create an External Service or Java iView from the master iView, the values you defined in the master iView are copied to the External Service or Java iView. Also read Maintenance of Master iView and External Service Properties.

For example if you want to enter your own system system _xy for property customer_system and not the value default_system, you can enter this value in the master iView. The value is copied to each object created by this master iView (External Services and Java iViews).

You should therefore preconfigure your master iViews for certain default values.

Default Settings in Master iViews

The maintenance of master iView properties corresponds to that for External Service or Java iView properties.

There is only a single exception. The property Use Default is only used for master iViews and not for External Services or Java iViews:

If you select Use Default, you indicate that you want to copy the default value for the master iView.

This is true:

If you change the setting and set Use Default, the default setting is automatically restored.

If you replace the default value with another value, the Use Default property is automatically deactivated.

All the values you overwrite (that is, the Use Default property is not marked) are retained when a new version of the master iView is imported into the Enterprise Portal.

Passing Properties to External Services (and Java iViews)

Each value of a master iViews (default values or your own values) is copied to the External Service (and Java iView) created based on the master.

In the master iView you can define which value may be overwritten and which value may not be changed in the External Service (or Java iView).

Example:

The default value is marked for each property in the following graphic: For the Use Frog Design for SAPGUI for Java property this means that the value true was selected and the personalization should be displayed in a generic dialog.

For the Use SAPGUI for HTML in the Portal property this means that the value true was selected and the default value should also be final. Personalization is not planned for the default value.

If you generate an External Service based on this master iView, you get the following results:

No value can be overwritten for the Use SAPGUI for HTML in the Portal property. The default setting in the master iView cannot be changed.

For the Use Frog Design for SAPGUI for Java property, there is a marking that the value of the master iView was copied (=use Master). You can also overwrite the default settings.

The principle described above for passing properties is also valid for Java iViews.

Activities

To configure master iViews:

  1. In the view area in the Role Editor, search for the relevant master iView in the catalog for master iViews.
  2. Click on the master iView and move it to the edit area with Edit.
  3. Edit the master iView properties by replacing certain default values with your own values.

Result

Based on configured master iViews you can now:
