Functions

Selecting queries in a worksheet

You can display which cell areas of the worksheet belong to which query by choosing Layout ® Select Queries in Worksheet from the BEx toolbar. Arrows between filter cells and the results area indicate the relevance of various cell areas to a query. If you choose the function again (or refresh any query), the selections are removed.

Log Book

The log book function gives you the opportunity of logging all activities of the Business Explorer in Excel. In the log book information is held, for example, on when which query is executed and with which parameters, on when you log on and log off from a particular Business Information Warehouse Server, on how a query is automatically processed further after refreshing using a VBA-Exit, and so on.

On the BEx toolbar, choose Settings ® Log , in order to begin and end the recording of information. As soon as you have requested the recording of a log book, you can display its contents by choosing the function Settings ® Display Log Book . You can save the contents of the log book as a text file.

You empty the log book by switching the logbook record off and back on again. Save the contents of the log book before you turn off the Log function.

It can also be the case that the system suggests you log off from the BW Server when you activate the log. This is because when you activate the log, the PC also starts logging the steps on the BW Server, which is only of use if it is started when you log on to BW. If you want to stop the steps being logged on the BW Server, choose Cancel.

The log book display is not constantly updated, meaning you must repeat the command Display log book from time to time in order to see the most current entries.

Displaying Information on the BW Server

This function allows you to display your logon parameters and the system parameters, meaning you get information on if and how you are logged onto the Business Information Warehouse Server. Choose Settings ® Display Information on the BW Server from the BEx toolbar. A dialog box then tells you, either that no connection exists to the Business Information Warehouse Server, or it shows you the parameters of the current connection (user name, host server, system name and so on).
