Creating WAP Reports for Mobile Devices 

Prerequisites

In the BEx Analyzer, you have defined a query and inserted it into a workbook.

Procedure

  1. Save a view of a query designed for mobile reporting.

The memory of WAP-compatible equipment is still extremely restricted; the volume of data that can be transferred must be small. So, a view for a query on mobile reporting must be within the area of 3-4 columns and 10 rows. Larger views are cut when they are transferred. These conditions only apply to the views; the query itself can be more complex.

Not only is the memory space restricted, but most WAP-compatible devices only offer vertical scrolling. This means you cannot display the results of a query horizontally. Because of this restriction, there is a new type of display, according to the following views:
    1. View by characteristic: All key figures are listed for each characteristic value.
    2. View by key figure: All characteristics are listed for each key figure.

When you name the view, do not use special characters, blank spaces, umlauts or accents, slashes, periods, or the commercial and (&). When you want to connect two words, use an underscore.

Use short names for the views. Long names are more awkward to enter on WAP-compatible devices.
  1. Call up the WML page over the following URL: http://ITS/scripts/wgate/bwwap/!?wbid=workbookid&viewid=viewname
  1. Enter the workbookid, the viewname and the ITS with the number of the port, if necessary.

qb4.wdf.sap-ag.de:1080

"qb4.wdf.sap-ag.de" = name of the ITS (incl. domain path)

1080 = Port

The two parts are connected by a semi-colon, without a blank space in between.

To find out the ID of the workbook
    1. Either choose Properties from the context menu (right mouse click), or choose the OLAP Functions for Active Cells symbol from the BEx toolbar.
    2. Choose the tabstrip Information. The field Workbook ID (server) shows you the ID of the workbook.

It is not necessary to create elements or check in Web templates.
