Web Reporting

Purpose

Web reporting enables you to publish queries that you have defined in the Business Explorer Analyzer to the Intranet or Internet. It is possible to insert and display queries in any HTML page. You are able to embed various queries into an HTML page, and use graphics to display the data (cockpit). You use the navigation functions to report on the data contained in a Web query (drilldown, refresh, and so on).

You use the BW Web Publisher to insert placeholders into a HTML document for items (in the form of object tags), data providers (in the form of object tags) and BW URLs. The HTML document with the BW-specific placeholders is called a Web template. Web templates are checked into the Web Publisher. The HTML page that is displayed in the Internet browser is called a Web report. Depending on which items you have inserted into the Web template, a Web report contains one or more queries, an alert monitor, charts, and so on.

Integration

It is possible to use any HTML editor or Web authoring tool to create HTML files for displaying queries in the Web. With the BW Web Publisher component in the Business Explorer Analyzer, you save views for queries that have already been defined, and provide them with display options for displaying queries on the Web. It is possible to open the Web reports in any Web browser.

SAP recommends that, with the browsers from Netscape and Microsoft, you use versions ³ 4, because these browsers have additional functions, and the interface is visually superior.

It is also possible to call and organize BW Web reports in the Business Explorer Browser on the Web. To execute Web reports, all you need is a Web browser. You also need to install the BEx frontend before you are able to publish Web reports.
