Component documentationSAP Advanced Planning and Optimization (SAP APO)

SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization (SAP APO) provides a fully integrated range of functions that you require for planning and executing your logistic processes. SAP APO supports the following:

  • Intercompany interaction on a strategic, tactical, and operative planning level

  • Collaboration with logistic partners from order receipt through stock monitoring to product shipping

  • Maintenance of relationships with customers and business partners

  • Continuous optimization and measurement of the performance of the logistic network

Features

SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization (SAP APO) can be deployed as part of an SAP SCM Server installation or as an add-on to SAP ERP (as of SAP enhancement package 6 for SAP ERP 6.0).

An SAP SCM Server installation provides the complete scope of SAP APO components and functions. In an add-on deployment to SAP ERP, the following SAP APO components and functions are available:

  • Demand Planning (SCM-APO-FCS)

  • Supply Network Planning (SCM-APO-SNP)

  • Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling (SCM-APO-PPS)

  • Global Available-to-Promise (SCM-APO-ATP)

The following application components and functions are not supported in an add-on deployment:

  • Service Parts Planning (SCM-APO-SPP)

  • Maintenance and Service Planning (SCM-APO-MSP)

  • Applications that use Integrated Product and Process Engineering (iPPE), including the following:

    • Model Mix Planning (SCM-APO-PPS-MMP)

    • Rapid Planning Matrix (SCM-APO-PPS-RPM)

    • Planned Order Management (SCM-APO-PPS-POM)

    • Action Handler (SCM-APO-PPS-AHT)

  • Functions for processes with direct integration of SAP APO and SAP Supply Network Collaboration (SAP SNC):

    • Connecting planning areas to SAP SNC

    • Product determination

  • Planning with packaging specification data

  • Planning with classification data (characteristics-dependent planning, variant configuration) and planning with batch data

  • Service-oriented architecture (SOA) services that are specific to SAP APO

  • Global Available-to-Promise (SCM-APO-ATP) integration with SAP CRM

Note Note

Any statements in the product documentation (including SAP Library, F1 Help, Implementation Guide, messages) that refer to the use of these application components and functions are only valid for the SCM Server deployment of SAP APO.

End of the note.

The following SAP APO applications and functions are available with adaptions:

  • Production campaigns

The production campaigns BAPIs Deletes Production Campaigns (BAPI_PCM_DELETE_MULTIPLE) and Create and Change Several Production Campaigns (BAPI_PCM_SAVE_MULTIPLE) are only relevant for SAP SCM Server. In SAP APO on SAP ERP, you use the BAPIs Deletes Production Campaigns (BAPI_PCM_DELETE_MULTIPLE_APO) and Create and Change Several Production Campaigns (BAPI_PCM_SAVE_MULTIPLE_APO).

  • Transportation Planning and Vehicle Scheduling (TP/VS)

If you activate this business function, the Customizing activity Define Number Range for Shipments is automatically replaced with a corresponding Customizing activity that is specific to the SAP APO add-on.

The following add-on cannot be run simultaneously with SAP APO on SAP ERP:

  • SAP Workforce Management

For more information, see SAP Note 1879566.

Step to Be Executed After Installation

After installation of the add-on, you must activate the BC Set /SAPAPO/APO_ON_ERP as this provides the basic system setup for SAP APO. You must activate the BC set in the same client in which you have installed SAP APO on SAP ERP.

Determining the Deployment Option

You can determine the deployment option of SAP APO in a system as follows:

  1. Choose   System  Status  .

  2. Choose the component information in the SAP System Data group. You can recognize the deployment option as follows:

    • If the SCMPLUS component is listed, then you are in an SCM server system (SCM server deployment of SAP APO).

    • If the SCMPLUS component is not listed, you are in an ERP system (add-on deployment of SAP APO).
