Deployment

Use

The Deployment run generates recommended shipments using best practice distribution planning processes. The recommended shipments are then used by the TLB to generate transportation plans and build transport loads.

Deployment determines which requirements can be covered by the existing supply. If the produced quantities (supply and demand) match actual plans, then the result of Deployment is a confirmation of the supply network plan. If the available quantities are insufficient to cover the demand, the system makes adjustments accordingly, depending on whether you run the Deployment Heuristic or Optimization.

You can run Deployment from the interactive planning table in Supply Network Planning (from the SAP APO Easy Access menu, choose Supply Network Planning ® Planning ® Interactive Supply Network Planning), or as a background job (from the SAP APO Easy Access menu, choose Supply Network Planning ® Planning ® Supply Network Planning in the Background).

Features

Deployment Heuristic

The Deployment Heuristic calculates a replenishment plan for one product at one location. If the available quantities are insufficient to cover the demand, the system uses fair share rules to determine the distribution plan. If there is more supply than is necessary to meet demand, the system uses push rules to determine the distribution plan. You specify fair share and push rules in the SNP Deployment profile (for more information, see Deployment Profiles).

Real-time Deployment

This deployment heuristic variant is used to execute deployment based on the most recent results from the SNP run. Here, the system considers the current requirements situation in the target locations by first executing an SNP run between the source location and its associated target locations before executing the actual deployment run.

When using fair share rule B (see Deployment Profiles), it is particularly important that the distribution is based on the most exact calculation of target and planned stock levels possible.

Deployment Optimization

The Deployment Optimization run calculates a replenishment plan for one product at all locations in the network. If the available quantities are insufficient or to cover the demand, or there is more product available than demand, the system uses minimum cost flow optimization to determine an optimal distribution plan for the entire network simultaneously. The following factors are considered:

The system assigns product priority classes as follows:

If you want to change the priority classes, you can only do so by specifying penalties for forecasted demand that are higher than the penalties for customer demand on the SNP 1 tab of the product master.

The Deployment Optimization run does not:
