Function documentation Lot-Sizes in MRP  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

During MRP, the system creates procurement proposals based on your lot-sizes if there is a stock shortage. By determining lot-sizes you can plan optimal quantities per procurement proposal and thus specifically cover your requirements. The planning of lot-sizes influences the planning of the available capacity, and the planning of the production or procurement costs. With AFS you can plan the quantities to be procured at SKU level.

You can also enable lot-sizing for make-to-order (MTO) requirements in AFS MRP.

Prerequisite

You must have activated the business function AFS, Production Planning (AFS/PP_PPL) to enable lot-sizing for MTO in AFS MRP.

Features

The table below describes to what extent AFS supports the usage of SAP standard and AFS lot-sizing procedures when they are combined with MRP-relevant functions. This clearly shows which settings you can maintain at material level and/or at SKU level (material master) and their interaction with the lot-sizing procedures.

Note

We recommend that you use the maximum lot-size for the AFS-specific lot-sizing procedures.

The lot-sizing in MTO has the following features:

If you have set the indicator Lot-Size: SOP to 1, AFS MRP creates separate stock proposals for each MTO requirement (Lot-for-Lot).

If you have set the indicator Lot-Size: SOP to 2, AFS MRP supports lot-sizing procedures maintained in MRP 1 view of material master.

AFS MRP creates multiple stock proposals for an MTO requirement if the MTO requirement quantity exceeds the maximum lot-size maintained in material master.

If you have maintained the minimum lot-size and the requirement quantity is lesser than that, then you must create the additional quantity required to achieve minimum lot-size only for the grid values present in the MTO requirement.

If you have activated the indicator Single Grid Value (AFS MRP view, General data tab) for the material, AFS MRP creates separate stock proposals (orders) for each grid-value of the MTO requirement.

      Supports the two-level rounding function.

Activities

To enable lot sizing for MTO, in Customizing choose Production   Material Requirements Planning   Planning   Lot-Size Calculation   Check Lot-Sizing Procedure. Then choose the button MRP Lot-Size and for the desired lot-size procedure, maintain the indicator Lot-Size: SOP.

Note

By activating the Customizing indicator Lot-Size: SOP, AFS MRP adjusts existing MTO planned orders according to lot-size settings. There is no change to firm planned orders.

AFS Restrictions

In the SAP standard Customizing you can determine an MRP-relevant part of the safety stock that is included in the MRP calculation and is thus available for the requirements coverage. You can use this function to prevent the system from unnecessarily creating procurement proposals to satisfy an insignificant stock shortage. This function is not supported by AFS.
