Background documentation Configurable Material Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Task

You use the configurable material mainly to enter the characteristic valuation the FERT generator transfers to the new finished product.

You store a maximum BOM and a maximum routing for your configurable material. If you create a new finished product using the FERT generator, the FERT generator assigns the finished product to the BOM and routing of the configurable material.

Creation

You create the configurable material as AFS material, with the valid material type (KMAT in the R/3 standard system) and assign a master grid to the material.

The following views are necessary:

If you want to use categories, you must enter your material in the MRP views as well.

You do not have to maintain other views or field data within these views. If a new finished product is created, the FERT generator copies the master data of the reference material and not the master data of the configurable material. Reference material and configurable material must have the same base unit of measure and master grid. If you use categories, the same is valid for the coverage strategy of both materials.
