Use

During the transfer of a production process model or PP/DS runtime object from SAP R/3 to SAP APO, SAP R/3 automatically executes storage location determination for the components, the co-products, and the by-products. Storage location data from the master data in SAP R/3 and from Customizing for material requirements planning in SAP R/3 is crucial for storage location determination. The storage locations that are determined are automatically entered in the plan for the source of supply in SAP APO.

If a planning application for SAP APO creates a planned order in a storage location MRP area, the system uses this storage location in the plan explosion to determine the location in which it creates the dependent requirement for a component or the receipt for the co-product or by-product. Features

To determine the storage location for a component, a co-product, or a by-product, SAP R/3 searches through the master data and Customizing in the following sequence and uses the first storage location that it finds with this procedure:

  1.  Storage location from the operation to which the component, the co-product, or by-product are assigned

The system uses the storage location from the production supply area of the work center that is assigned to this operation.

  2.  Storage location from the BOM of the assembly

The system uses the production storage location that is entered in the BOM item of the component or the co-product.

  3.  Storage location from Customizing for material requirements planning

The system uses the strategy you have defined in Customizing for material requirements planning to determine the storage location. For more information on the Customizing strategies, refer to the SAP R/3 documentation for material requirements planning (PP) under:

A distinction can be made between storage location determination within source transfer and normal storage determination in SAP R/3 due to the following features:

¡  In the Customizing strategy 2, the system should derive the storage location from the assembly. However, the system does not transfer any storage location to SAP APO here, meaning that the storage location field is empty in SAP APO.

¡  In the Customizing strategy 4, the system should derive the storage location from the assembly. If it does not find a storage location in this way, it should use the storage location from the material master for the component or the co-product. This strategy only works as in storage location determination in SAP R/3 if there is not an MRP area for the assembly.

  4.  Storage location from the material master for the component or the co-product

This case is only relevant if you have not defined a Customizing strategy. Here, the system uses the production storage location or the default production supply area from the material master of the component or the co-product.

If a storage location does not result from this procedure, the storage location for the component or the co-product remains blank in SAP APO.

Note

You can manually enter a storage location in SAP APO in the plan of a PPM for a component, a co-product or a by-product.
