Function documentation Logfile Monitoring Monitor  Locate the document in its SAP Library structure

Use

You can use this monitor to search any log files for the occurrence of text patterns of your choice. This is done using a Structure linkCCMS agent that takes the required information about which text pattern it should search for in which files from one or more configuration files.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

Integration

As the search for the text patterns is performed by a CCMS agent, this agent must be installed and active (see Structure linkInstalling and Registering the CCMS Agents) on the host that contains the desired log file (or at least on a host from which it can access the desired file).

Prerequisites

You must have created the configuration files that contain the information about the log files to be monitored and the text patterns for which the agent is to search (see Monitoring Log Files with CCMS Agents).

Features

The monitor creates a subtree for every monitored file. The name of the subtree consists of a prefix and the name of the file. You can use this prefix, which you set in the configuration file for the monitoring (see Structure of the Log File Template of the Log File Agent), to differentiate between different files with the same name that you want to monitor. Each subtree consists, at most, of the following monitoring tree elements (MTEs):

MTE

Description

Complete Name

Complete name including file path of the monitored log file from the point of view of the monitoring CCMS agent

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

You can also display the content of the monitored files in the Alert Monitor. To do this, double click the Complete Name attribute in which the name of the monitored file is displayed.

Info[<Name>]

If you are searching for search patterns with no alert value, the system displays the line that contains the search pattern APPL_INFO_<n> in the text attribute Info[<APPL_INFO_MTE_NAME_<n>>] (see Examples of Logfile Templates).

Monitored Patterns

Search pattern with alert value (see Examples of Logfile Templates); you can monitor a file for multiple search patterns (the system displays these in the monitor separated by |)

Lines found for pattern

Lines of the log file that match the search pattern

Data Collection Check

Time of the last check of the log file; this status attribute is always colored green.

File Time Stamp

Time of the last change of the monitored log attribute; this attribute is only created if you specify the parameter MONITOR_LAST_FILE_MODIF=1 in the log file template

New Lines in Log File

Growth of the monitored log file in lines per minute; this attribute is created only if you specify the parameter SHOWNEWLINES=1 in the log file template

Log File Size

Size of the log file; this attribute is created only if you specify the parameter MONITOR_FILESIZE_KB ³0 in the log file template (if MONITOR_FILESIZE_KB>0, you also assign an alert threshold value to the attribute by setting)
