The Problem Analysis menu contains, among other things, the database trace tool. The database trace has a negative effect on performance, and should be activated only for problem analysis.

       1.      In the user menu, choose Database: Monitoring ® Database Assistant (transaction DB50 ).

       2.      Choose Problem Analysis ® Database Trace.

Possible Functions

·        Initialize Trace: If you want to be sure that only subsequent database actions are logged, choose Initialize Trace.

·        Activate Trace: To activate the trace, first choose your trace options, (usually default options) and then Activate Trace.

You can activate more trace options while the trace is running by selecting them and choosing Activate Trace again.
The Current Trace Status display shows whether the trace is currently activated, and with which options.

·        Deactivate Trace: To deactivate the trace, choose Deactivate Trace. This deactivates any trace options that are selected.

·        Deactivate Trace After Error: To specify that the trace is deactivated automatically when a certain error occurs, choose Deactivate Trace After Error and enter the database error number.

·        Flush Trace Buffer: To analyze the trace, first choose Flush Trace Buffer, and then Format and Display Trace.

Back up the database trace you have displayed by choosing Save to Local File. This stops it from being overwritten by the next trace analysis.

·        Display Trace: To view a trace again, choose Display Trace.
