Definition

A sequence of chemical, physical, or biological activities for converting, storing, or transporting material or energy (cf. process as per ISA, Standard S88). The process is the top element in the process model. It contains all the activities that are required to produce one or more products. It can be divided into various recipes stages. A recipe usually only has one process.

Use

When you create a process as a building block, you can use it as a template as often as required. You can also create a process from a pool of building blocks.

The process elements can be copied to the recipe individually by means of suitable building blocks. You cannot copy the entire process with all the relevant elements to an existing recipe. Instead, you can use the process and all the data it contains as a template for creating new recipes.

Structure

Apart from the recipe, the process is the highest procedural element in recipe processing.

The recipe process is specified by the process elements stage, operation, and action. The process itself contains structural relationships to process stages, and thus indirectly to operations and actions. Process stages are always dependent on higher-level processes.

Note

You can create processes as a building block and while you are editing a recipe.
