Definition of Packets to be Distributed
Use
You define which products participate in distribution. The set of all product that participate in distribution forms the distributable product portfolio of your company. A product is represented by a material. However, you may find it useful to assign a class in which materials are classified.
Integration
Configuration folders and baselines are managed with configuration management. However, you can call all the functions you need for PLM product data distribution from the replication workbench.
For more information on configuration management, see the SAP Library
Working with Configuration Management.
Features
You create a configuration folder for products that you want to distribute. In the configuration folder, you enter one or more objects that identify the product, such as a material master record or document.
In the recipient list of a configuration folder, you register the logical systems to which the product or new product versions are to be distributed. Here, you also register the users that are to be informed of each new product version.
You can group together several configuration folders for related products to a configuration definition. This can be useful if you create a separate configuration folder for individual assemblies of a product.
![]()
The strategy that you use to assign products to configuration folders, and assign configuration folders to recipients, and configuration definition, must be defined in the project concerned.
In a configuration folder, you can also group together several products. This can be useful if you always want to distribute several products of a product family together. These are just some of the options you have:
Activities
To create a configuration folder in the replication workbench:
You see the replication workbench.
If a folder already exists, you can enter data on the selection screen and search for the folder.

We recommend that you create a life-cycle profile for product data distribution with only one life-cycle phase (see also the Implementation Guide Logistics General ® Configuration Management ®
Result
The system creates a configuration definition and a configuration folder, where you can enter the
objects you want to distribute and the logical systems and users.
