Use

If a material master record is locked, the fields defined in Customizing as lock-relevant can no longer be changed in material master maintenance. In dialog mode, these fields are not ready for input. (This does not apply to required fields in which an entry has not yet been made when you extend a material master record.) The lock takes effect when the material master record is saved.

Once locked, a material master record cannot normally be unlocked. However, it can be unlocked with a special authorization, provided the material is not used in configuration management. For more information, see Configuration Management (LO-CM).

Integration

A material master record can be locked only if there are no scheduled changes to lock-relevant fields.

Prerequisites

You have defined which fields are lock-relevant. You do this in Customizing for the Material Master in Define Lock-Relevant Fields.

Your system administrator has authorized you to lock (or exceptionally to unlock) material master records. This requires you to have the corresponding authorization for authorization object M_MATE_MAF.

Features

If you have the necessary authorization, the option Lock material (or exceptionally Unlock material) appears in the status bar in material master maintenance. A material that has been locked is indicated to all users by the icon Material is locked. It is also possible for all users to display which fields have been locked.
