Note

In this context, the term 'address' includes persons (ADRP) for address types 2 and 3 (where the person number is used as an additional key).

Most applications now use Business Address Services (BAS) to benefit from the functions they provide, such as the use of all current communication methods or standardized print formatting based on national and international rules.

New applications or applications with new address functions added can use BAS directly without conversion. However, applications that used to have their own address management require data conversion since the address information from the application tables must be transferred into BAS tables and structures. If the application tables store address information as well (for example, in the customer and vendor master), this information is matched internally with the corresponding BAS fields.

Generally, applications store a reference to the address key (and a person number, if required) in the application tables to access the address data. During data conversion, existing address numbers are kept. New address numbers are assigned by BAS.

Data is converted during the upgrade by means of XPRA reports (XPRA = EXecution of PRogram After Import) of BAS. These reports are added to a transport request using statement 'R3TR XPRA repname' and are executed automatically during upgrade downtime.

Note

The system logs the actions of XPRA reports. Since XPRAs can be restarted, data that has already been converted does not have to be converted again if the XPRA terminates and is executed again.
