Master Warranty
The master warranty is composed of the following parts:
· Warranty header (warranty type, description, classification)
· Warranty service items (including/excluding services)
· Warranty counter (counter, limits)
The header data refer to the whole data record. You can specify the following data at header level:
· Warranty type
In this field you specify which warranty type you would like to define, that is, whether the warranty is used as a manufacturer- or supplier warranty (inbound) or as a customer warranty (outbound).
· Indicator: Pass on warranty
This indicator specifies whether the master warranty should be passed on from the technical object to the technical objects on a lower-level of the hierarchy. Then the warranty of the technical object of the higher hierarchy level is also displayed during the warranty check of the lower-level technical objects. For each warranty type a maximum of one higher-level technical object is displayed, if there is one.
· Sort field warranties
The freely-definable sort field is mainly for searching for particular warranties.
· Short text/long text
In the long text you can list general conditions that affect the validity of the warranty (for example, the warranty services only apply if the device has been used correctly). You can create texts in different languages.
· Classification
If you must manage a lot of different warranties, you can assign them to certain classes (for example, classes for the various suppliers, customer groups, and so on). This simplifies search processes, and supports evaluations from particular aspects.
You can enter as many service items as you want in the master warranty record. You must use one of the following options to describe each item:
· Service master record
If you do not enter a service master record, you must enter a short text describing the service item.
· Short text/long text
You can create texts in different languages. When you choose a service master record, the system automatically displays the text for this service or activity.
· Checkboxes
Depending on the type of service entered, the system uses the Configured and Service is configurable checkboxes to display whether the service is already configured or whether it can be configured.
· Including/Excluding services
You must enter an including/excluding indicator for each service item. You use this indicator to specify whether the service should be included in the warranty or whether it is excluded. Included and excluded items can be combined in a warranty. Only included items are checked.

A warranty for a vehicle includes the following items:
|
Items |
Incl./Excl. |
|
Engine |

|

|
Corrosion protection |

|
Damages to canopy hood |

Each service item has one or more counters, which are used to document the time or the counter readings for the validity of the warranty. You generally do not need a counter for items which should be excluded from the general warranty conditions. If you have assigned more than one counter to an item, you must determine
· whether all counters must be valid so that the warranty item is valid, or
· whether at least one counter must be valid
To define the relationship between the different counters of an item, you must select one of the following radio buttons:
· AND
specifies that all counter readings must be filled for the warranty to be effective
· OR
specifies that at least one of the counter readings must be filled for the warranty to be effective

Before you create a warranty, you should define all the counters that you need. In the system, warranty counters are displayed with the characteristics of the classification system. For more information, see Define Warranty Counter.
For each counter you must enter a value for the unit of measurement, for example,
|
Warranty time Operating hours Counter reading |
1 year 500 hours 9999 |
The counter unit is displayed by a characteristic unit in the system. This measurement unit can be the connection between the warranty record and the master record of the object for which the warranty was created.
The warranty can be assigned to equipment, functional locations, or even serial numbers. You can assign two types of warranty (customer/supplier warranty) for each object.

In doing this, note that one of the two warranty types must be “inbound” and the other must be “outbound”. This means, the warranty types must have different warranty categories.
The warranty data is processed using special settings in Customizing of Plant Maintenance and Customer Service under Master Data in Plant Maintenance and Customer Service ® Technical Objects ® Basic Settings ® Warranties.
