Definition

The Garnishment Adjustment (Infotype 0068) enables you to make changes to employee garnishments and keep records of those changes.

Use

You enter this infotype using the Garnishment Debt (Infotype 0067), because adjustments must always refer to an existing debt. In the Garnishment Debt infotype, you can choose between different the following types of adjustments:

This adjustment can be made for a debt that consists of an initial balance to be paid back. A court may give you a new initial balance as of a specific date. Starting on that date, the new initial balance has to be paid back by the employee, and any previous payments for this debt are disregarded.

Employees may not always be able to fulfill their ongoing payment obligations, and you can indicate that the resulting arrears should be accumulated indefinitely. These arrears are then paid back whenever the employee has sufficient earnings to pay for the ongoing payment plus additional money owed. By using this adjustment, you can set accumulated arrears to zero at the adjustment date.

You may sometimes receive a refund for a particular debt. This adjustment allows you to enter the refunded amount, which will be taken into account during subsequent payroll runs. You can also describe how to treat this amount.

This adjustment can also be used when a cheque has already been printed, but has not yet been sent, before you notice that the payment should not be made.

You can use this adjustment when the payroll run has been made, but some of the garnished money should not be sent out. The garnished amount must still be in the tables associated with the remittance if you want to use this adjustment.

Payments toward a debt may also be made outside of the payroll system, for example, by manually writing a cheque. Generally, this payment must still be taken into account by the program in subsequent payroll runs. You can use this adjustment to enter information about such payments.

There may be cases when you need to make an additional payment towards a debt. In this case you enter in this adjustment the amount that should be deducted.
