SAP Retail Store (LO-SRS)

Purpose

You can use this component of the SAP Retail System in stores. Together with the central SAP Retail system, it forms a self-contained retailing and merchandise management system.

The majority of transactions and events posted in a store involve procurement, goods movements and sales. SAP Retail Store enables you to have your store associates make these postings directly.

In conjunction with SAP Retail, SAP Retail Store enhances and optimizes the existing tools available for processing store-oriented processes by providing store associates with specially developed store management functions in addition to those already available in SAP Retail. It offers a web-based user interface that is tailored specifically to the requirements of stores. This interface combines the intuitive guidance of a web browser with the special s tore-based transactions of the SAP system. As a result, even part-time staff with little training can quickly start working with the system.

If SAP Retail Store is used, administrative time and costs in the store are minimal, as you only require a standard PC and browser software.

Implementation Considerations

SAP Retail Store is a separate product that is based on SAP Retail. It is intended for use in small and mid-size stores with relatively straightforward business processes. These stores only need a limited number of the SAP Retail functions, so simplified screens and process flows are sufficient for handling the business processes.

The system can be used in a wide variety of sectors.

Implementing SAP Retail Store allows you to do away with all other non-SAP components for store control apart from POS systems, because SAP Retail Store is fully integrated in SAP Retail.

A link must exist with the central SAP system while data is being accessed. You should use ISDN lines for communications between stores and the head office.

The screens are easiest to use on a 17" monitor.

The business functions of SAP Retail Store do not support the following browser functions:

You should therefore configure your browser so that the se functions do not appear in the menu bar. SAP Retail Store enables you to navigate using the graphical elements on the individual screens.

Integration

SAP Retail Store belongs to the Distributed Data Processing functions of SAP Retail.

The difference between SAP Retail Store and Online Store is illustrated in the following graphic:

SAP Retail Store allows your store associates to process internal business transactions, while Online Store is used to sell goods to consumers over the Internet. See also Product Catalog and Online Store on the Internet (LO-MD-AM)

The software is run in the head office on a SAP Retail application server. It is started when the stores access the SAP system. An internet transaction server (ITS) makes the functions available via Internet Application Components (IACs). It communicates with the SAP System via business application programming interfaces (BAPIs) and with the standard web browsers in the stores via your intranet or the internet.

Features

Before you can access the SAP Retail Store screen, you have to log on on an initial screen. Both screens are required for navigating and working with general parameters (such as store numbers).

The system checks authorizations at store and transaction level.

The user interface of SAP Retail Store is intentionally kept very simple to ensure ease of use. As a result, store associates can quickly start using the system.

Mechanisms for data derivation ensure that the interface is tailored to stores' needs. For most functions, you do not need to enter organizational data, for example.

All the functions available in SAP Retail Store can be accessed from a graphical menu. You do not have to use all the existing functions. SAP Retail Store enables you to display only those functions in the menu that you want to use in your stores.

Even with only a little knowledge of HTML, you can change the interface as required. You can, for example, add your own graphics or include links to additional pages, change specific columns or even replace the SAP Retail Store logo with your own. You can also change the Customizing settings in the SAP System to hide individual fields.
