Conversion Program: Securities Transaction [Rel. 4.6A]

As of Release 4.6A, the securities order function is integrated into the Treasury transaction management function as part of the standardization process across the whole of Treasury. This means that the processing functions for financial transactions in the money market, foreign exchange, derivatives and securities areas are practically the same.

The structure of the general transaction management function is different from the previous order management function. As a result, the securities area has undergone several changes:

New transaction processing sequence

Blocked for posting

The transaction flows take this status if

  • the transaction is in an activity that is not relevant for posting.

The Relevant for posting activity is the last activity in the activity chain. When you use processing category 00001, the activity relevant for posting is the Contract, and with processing category 00002, it is the Settlement.

  • the transaction has reached the posting-relevant activity, but the activity has not yet been saved. Instead, it has been noted (Security transaction ® Note).

The transaction flows still have planned records status and the transaction can still be changed.

Flagged for posting

If the transaction has reached the posting-relevant activity and has been saved, it is assigned the posting status Flagged for posting.

This fixes the transaction flows and gives them actual records status. The transaction can no longer be changed.

Posting carried out

If the flows were updated to the general ledger using the posting report program, they are given the Posting carried out status.

Posting flagged for reversal

If a transaction that has posted flows has been reversed by the Transaction ® Reverse function, the flows are assigned the Posting flagged for reversal status.

Posting reversed

If the flows that were reversed have been updated to the general ledger using the Accounting ® Transaction ® Reverse documents function, the flows are assigned the Posting reversed status.

Changes to Customizing in the securities area

B) The following IMG activities are no longer included in the securities area:

Conversion program and delta Customizing

Customers, who already use the securities module, must convert their existing transactions in the system to the new transaction management functions as a result of the move.

To convert existing transactions, SAP provides this conversion program (call it up using transaction TS_CONVERT). It is described in more detail below. Conversion does not take place automatically, but instead in several steps. Some of these steps require you to make certain settings in Customizing.

The conversion program for securities transactions not only supports the migration of the 'old' securities transactions to the new transaction management functions, but also the delta Customizing settings that must be made for the new transaction management functions before the data can be migrated.

Prerequisite

Since the program only converts the transactions that have Order or Posted settlement status, you must have settled or deleted all the transactions that still have Execution or Planned settlement status before you upgrade to 4.6A.

Process

The conversion program consists of five report programs, which you run in sequence. You are required to make some Customizing settings before you start the conversion. We recommend that you run the individual report programs in the following order, since some report programs are a prerequisite for other report programs:

  1. Generate Transaction Types
  2. This report program generates the relevant transaction types per product type for the existing transaction flow types for purchase and sale transactions. The IMG activity Define Transaction Types is generated automatically from the existing information for the product types and for the flow types. The report program also assigns the transaction flow types to the transaction types (IMG activity Assign Flow Types to Transaction Type).

  3. Generate Flow Data
  4. This report program copies the existing transactions that have Order and Posted settlement status to the new transaction management functions. It does not convert transactions that have been reversed and deleted. A new transaction is created with a new number for each ’old' transaction and the number assignment is saved. This means that you can branch from the new transaction to the old one.

  5. Generate Assignment of Planning Levels
  6. This report program updates the assignment of the planning levels.

  7. Generate Account Determination
  8. This report program generates the account determination for the transaction flow types in the same way as it generates the account determination for the securities flow types.

  9. Generate Assignment of Position Management Procedure

As part of the new transaction management functions, the function for determining price gains/losses has also been redesigned. As a result, there is a new IMG activity, Assign Position Management Procedure, which uses this report program to generate the previous position management settings.

We recommend that you perform a test run for all report programs first. Only start the update run when you are sure there are no errors in the test run.

Result

When you have eliminated all the errors from the report programs, you have transferred all the transactions available to the new transaction management functions. You have also made all the Customizing settings and can now enter new transactions using the new transaction management functions.
