You can operate the SAP Warehouse Management System (WMS) as a stand-alone decentralized system that is independent of a central Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System.
This chapter contains the information you need to customize the WMS. The IMG is structured in a way that you can maintain the required parameters in the ERP system as well as in the decentralized WMS. In order to consider the individual characteristics of the different system environments, note the following:
You normally use a Customizing project to customize your system. If the ERP system and the decentralized WMS are both SAP systems, you must create a separate IMG project for each of these two systems. In the ERP system, you select the component ALR0000093 "Central processing", in the decentralized WMS you select the component ALR0000094 "Local Operations". To make the ALE-specific settings, you must additionally consider the component HLB0006330 "ALE Integration technology" for your Customizing project.
In addition, you need application-specific components, for example for Warehouse Management and Shipping. In the WMS component, warehousing and shipping functions are only available in the decentralized WMS.
