New Function in Payroll Australia: Salary Packaging

Description

Salary Packaging is a new function in HR Personnel Administration and Payroll for Australia. In this release, it must only be used by approved pilot customers.

Salary packaging allows you to forecast accurately the impact of various salary components on an employee's gross and net income. An employee's total package consists of the employee's gross excluding additional company costs such as company superannuation contributions. By accurately projecting an employee's total package, employers can streamline remuneration to an employee's individual requirements.

To determine an employee's total salary package, the system first checks eligibility criteria and preconfigured limits such as the employee's age, appraisal result and salary level. The system then proposes all the salary components for which an employee is eligible.

You can then either select various salary components and instruct the system to calculate the amount as per the standard configuration, or you can enter the amount you wish to spend on the various salary components.

For example, if you choose the salary component Company Superannuation No. 1 , you can configure the system to only allow the selection of one of a predefined range of percentages. If you choose the salary component Employee Superannuation No. 1, you can enter a standard contribution amount of $3000.

When you select the employee's salary components, the system checks that the employee's basic salary does not fall below zero.

Once the salary components have been defined, you can perform a simulated payroll run to calculate the employee's net pay. After simulating various packages, you save the optimal package. The system then automatically updates all the infotypes affected by the employee's salary package.
