Rounding to Price Points

Use

Price points are fixed sales prices that are used as targets for rounding in the sales price calculation function. In retailing, the price points used are often one unit less than a round number (such as 1.99 USD).

If price point rounding is specified for a sales price calculation in the sales price calculation function, the system can round the sales price determined by the sales price calculation schema (2.86 USD, for example) to something like 2.79 USD, or perhaps 2.99 USD.

If you change the sales prices interactively in the Sales prices (gross, net) list fields in the pricing table, price points are taken into account. If you make interactive changes to the Final price list field, however, price points are not taken into account. This means that if the settings for rounding to price points have been made and you want to use sales prices that are not rounded, you can do this by entering the prices you wish to use in the Final price list field.

Prerequisites

You need to make the following settings in Customizing for automatic price point rounding:

Price points are defined using price point groups in Customizing for Pricing.

For each price point group, a price point currency and a rounding rule must be defined as well as price points. The rounding rule determines how prices are to be rounded to the price points. Thus you can, for example, decide whether prices should be rounded up or down to the next price point (to the nearest whole number) or whether prices should always be rounded up to the next price point.

You assign price point groups to organizational levels/merchandise categories in Customizing for Pricing. This defines which price point groups are to be used in the sales price calculation function.

The following assignment criteria apply:

The price point category allows you to assign different price point groups for rounding the final price (ENDPR list field) and the retail price (EVPRS list field). The retail price is used only in two-step price calculation in wholesale. This price is the sales price for the wholesaler's customers, which is calculated for them as a service. As customers generally use different price point rounding than your company does, you want to use different price point groups for the different sales prices.

Price point groups that are to be used for rounding the retail price are assigned using the price point category 02. Use price point category 01 in all other cases.

Organizational levels are differentiated by distribution chain (sales organization and distribution channel) and (for wholesale) by distribution chain first and then by price list and price list currency.

Determining the price point group

To make maintenance of assignments easier, the system uses a kind of logical access sequence to determine the price point group. This sequence contains either two or four individual steps, depending on whether or not you are calculating prices for price lists.

In this case, accesses are performed using a blank price list. The first access is performed using the distribution chain and the current merchandise category. If no entry exists for the current merchandise category, the system performs a search using the distribution chain and blank merchandise category.

First, the system searches the whole key (distribution chain, merchandise category and price list) for a price point group. If no price point group is maintained for the whole key, the system searches using a blank price list and the current merchandise category. If this is unsuccessful, the system searches using the current price list and blank merchandise category. If no entry is found, the system performs a search using a blank price list and blank merchandise category.
