Picking Waves

Usage

Using picking waves, you can perform detailed planning for picking by creating work packages for picking. Picking waves consist of deliveries that are to be processed at roughly the same time and in groups. You create picking waves using time parameters; here it is possible to take capacity limits into account.

Integration

Picking waves are groups of deliveries that are identified by a number.

You can execute the following functions Subsequent Functions for Picking Waves with reference to the picking wave for all deliveries of a picking wave:

You can monitor the processing status of picking waves using the picking wave monitor function.

Picking waves do not influence the workload that is displayed in the Rough Workload Forecast.

Prerequisites

To work with picking waves and most of the following functions, you need at least the implementation of Lean WM. Naturally, you can work with picking waves if you have the full WM functionality implemented.

You create the picking waves using exact time parameters. To do this, you need to specify the exact time schedule in minutes.

(If you have the route schedule implemented and are using the goods issue time as the comparison time, you can work with picking waves without precise minute specifications.)

For hints on Customizing, refer to the IMG, section on Picking Waves.

Actions

With the time slots, a working day is subdivided into small units. You can group time slots together into a timeslot group.

Before the system assigns individual deliveries to the picking waves, the due deliveries are sorted by:

  1. Date
  2. Time
  3. Delivery priority (field in the customer master)

Afterwards, the system allots each delivery whose comparison time is in a time slot of a timeslot group to a picking wave that belongs to this time slot. In the case of picking waves with capacity restriction, this is done until the capacity limit is reached.

The system selects as comparison time the goods issue time set in Customizing for the respective warehouse / distribution center.

The following deliveries exist:
