Alerts: Overview

The CCMS Alert Monitors were designed as an R/3 early warning system. These monitors display both critical and simple warnings for all components in the R/3 environment. The CCMS provides a series of graphical monitors, displaying red, yellow or green condition lights, and a single text monitor which displays the equivalent information in text format.

These monitors significantly improve the reaction time of the system administrator if potential problems arise. This in turn leads to higher availability of the R/3 System.

The main alert monitors are:

Other monitors also exist, in further support of those mentioned above.

To start the Global Alert Monitor:

From the main R/3 menu, select Tools ® Administration ® Monitoring ® Performance ® Alerts ® Global ® SAP system

Alternatively, use transaction code AL01 .

The Alert Monitor displays the critical alert (with a message) for each application server. Information is provided in various views (e.g. online, background jobs, spool). The appearance of the graphical Alert Monitor is as follows:

The left column of the monitor gives the name of the application instance server from which this alert originated. This column is actually a group of pushbuttons which you can select to log on directly to the server (instance) of interest.

The middle section is a short text description of the alert originating from that application instance. This text is actually placed on top of another set of pushbuttons, which you can select to get a more detailed information subscreen.

On the right is the corresponding alert in the colors of either red (critical alert), yellow (warning), or green (healthy).

Apart from the text mode, this monitor can also display Dialog, Update, Spool, and Job performance perspective modes. To select these modes, choose menu options Monitor ® Performance or the corresponding pushbutton.

To display the alert information:

Click the button with the alert text.

An overview of all alert indicators for the instance is displayed.

From this screen, you can acknowledge or reset any alerts which have been propagated to this area. Again, the monitored areas on the left are pushbuttons which you can select to get more detailed information.
